The "World of relationships" is war????

In a recent conversation with some American friends, we suddenly found ourselves discussing about relationships, or more specifically, how hard it is to find the right guy or girl. (now, before any of you start getting any ideas, I was only cursorily involved in the discussion at this stage and had nothing to say…. ) The major question in debate was “If a man is not engaged/married, is he still “fair game” for all, even if he is in a relationship?” (now, let me tell you right off the bat here, that I was the only guy in this discussion, and so the argument was almost only about finding the right GUY, and how hard they are to find….!!!!) Me, being well… me, argued that if a guy was obviously involved with someone, even if he wasn’t married or engaged, he wouldn’t be available/”fair game”. However, I was completely outnumbered as every other person (All females) insisted on the opposite. They claimed that the world of relationships was a dog-eat-dog world, and nothing less than a war. And so, as long as the guy isn’t spoken for (i.e. if he doesn’t have a ring in his finger) he’s on the market. It is a bit disconcerting, but I’m “told” that that’s how it is, in the U.S of A. I must admit, I thought it would be the opposite here. This seems to justify a certain degree of bitchiness… like allowing a certain amount of foul play into the game. I mean, if you know for sure, that someone is involved with someone, why would you still go ahead and barge in and try to steal them? To me, (to borrow a quote from the English) that just isn’t cricket, my dear chap. It is justifying the act of breaking up a relationship to serve your own needs, and THAT just doesn’t sound right to me. My comments were overruled by sheer numbers. The opposing argument was, what if he/she (let’s just call them the TARGET, shall we?) is not happy in the relationship. My response was that, we could introduce ourselves to the target, and maybe befriend them, but NOT try to steal them away….. Again, I was overruled.

Looks like that’s how the world turns. Funny, unjust maybe, but true..

Movie Review- Dasavatharam

தசாவதாரம் படத்தை கடந்த வெள்ளிக்கிழமை அன்று நான் பார்த்தேன். அப்படத்தை பற்றி என்ன சொல்வது... ஒரு வரியில் சொல்லணும் என்றால் அப்படம் உருவாக்கிய எதிர்பார்புக்களை அடைந்தும் அடையாமலும் இருந்தது.
புரியவில்லையா? அப்படத்தின் சில தருணங்கள் மிக நன்றக வடிவமைக்க பட்டிருந்தது , உதாரனத்துக்கு கமலின் ஜப்பானியர் வேடம், அமெரிக்கன் Fletcher இன் வேடம் மற்றும் பாட்டியின் வேடங்கள் மிக நன்றாக இருந்தன. ஆனால் கதையில் சில கதாபாத்திரங்களை கமலுக்கு பத்து வேடங்கள் வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவே உருவாக்கியது போல் இருந்தந்து. உதாரனத்துக்கு George Bush, மற்றும் இஸ்லாமியரக ஒரு வேடம். இதற்கும் மேலாக, சில இடங்களில் கமலின் அமெரிக்க வேடங்களின் make up, முகத்தில் மைதா மாவை பூசியது போல் இருந்தது.
உலகின் மிக பேச பட்ட மற்றும் விவாதிக்கப்பட்ட Chaos theory யை அஸ்திவாரமாக கொண்டுள்ளது இந்த படம். உலகத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியில் அசையும் ஒரு சிறு பட்டாம்பூச்சியின் சிறகுகளால் உலகின் இன்னொரு பகுதியில் பூகம்பம் வரலாம், என்று கூறுகிறது இந்த theory. அதே பாதையில், கூட ஆன்மீகத்தையும் கலந்து வழங்கியிருக்கிறார் ரவிக்குமார். 12 அம் நூற்றாண்டில் நடந்த ஒரு சமபாவம் எப்படி 21 அம் நூற்றாண்டை பாதிக்கும் என்று சொல்ல முயற்சித்திருக்கிறார். (இந்த ஒரு விஷயம் மட்டும் எனக்கு புரியவில்லை-- 12 அம் நூற்றாண்டில் நடந்த அந்த சம்பவம் எப்படி இக்கதையில் பொருந்துகிறது?)
அசினின் கதாபாத்திரம் .... சொல்வதுற்கு வார்த்தைகளே இல்லை... இக்காலத்திலும் இப்படி ஒரு பெண்ணா? நம்ப முடியவில்லை ரவிக்குமார். இன்னொரு முக்கியமான ஒரு விஷயம், கமல் கண்டுபிடித்துள்ள அந்த virus ஐ NaCl கொண்டு அழிக்க முடியும் என்று கமல் படத்தின் நடுவில் கூறுகிறார், ஆனால் படத்தின் கடைசி பாத்து வினாடிகளில் தான் NaCl என்றால் உப்பு என்று உணருகிறான் கமல். இது நம்மூரு ஐந்தாம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும் ஒரு சிறுவனுக்கு கூட தெரியுமே.

ஆனால், படம் எனக்கு பிடிதிரிந்தது கொஞ்சம் நம்பிக்கையின் எல்லையை சோதிப்பதாக இருந்தாலும், நன்றகவே இருந்தது. படம் முழுக்க அடுத்து என்ன செய்வார்கள், எல்லா சம்பவங்களையும் எப்படி ஒன்றாக கோர்பார்கள் என்று ஒரு எதிர்பார்ப்பு இருந்தது.

இப்படத்தை ஒரு முறை பார்க்கலாம். அதற்குமேல் பார்க்கணும் என்றால் நீர் ஒரு தீவிர கமல் ரசிகனாக இருந்தால் மட்டுமே முடியும்.
